Your website’s getting attention, but not action? You’re not alone.

The fix might be simpler than you think! Just a few well-placed tweaks can turn lookers into bookers ;)

Whether you're a therapist, chiropractor, or acupuncturist, your website is one of your most valuable tools for attracting new clients.

For your website to do its magic, every little piece, from where your buttons live to how your bio reads, needs to encourage visitors to book that first session.

Small Website Tweaks That Can Increase Client Bookings & Traffic Conversion

Update Your Calls to Action (CTAs)

The little "Book Now" button does a lot of heavy lifting. But not all calls to action (CTAs) are created equal. Even tiny little tweaks to the wording, colour, or placement of your buttons can significantly impact how many visitors follow through.

Some best practices to consider:

  • Use short, clear CTAs like “Book Now” instead of “Schedule an Appointment” or “Get in Touch.”

  • Place your Book Now button in at least three key areas of your homepage (like the top right corner of your header, under a headline, and after you introduce services).

  • Make sure your CTA button stands out by using a colour that contrasts with the rest of your website.

  • Include a Book Now button under each team member’s photo and bio on the Team page.

  • On mobile devices, check to make sure the button is large enough to tap easily. (There’s nothing worse than making people zoom in to click!)

If you’re using online booking software like Jane, simplify the booking flow by skipping unnecessary steps, like credit card input for free consults. You can provide alternative options for people who hesitate, such as a phone number, email address, or contact form.

The Grunt Test: Optimize Your Header for Clarity

Your homepage hero section or "above the fold" is prime real estate. It’s the first thing visitors see! If it isn’t super clear who you help and how you help, they may bounce without exploring further.

The Grunt Test, popularized by Donald Miller, is a great way to evaluate your hero section. It’s named after what a caveman could figure out… seriously!

If someone landed on your site and, in just a few seconds, could grunt the essentials like “who you are,” “what you do,” and “how to get it,” you’re golden. If not, you might need a few tweaks to make your message clearer.

A good headline should instantly tell visitors who you help, what you offer, and where you’re located… not just sound nice.

For example, “Helping you find your path” could describe too many things. But “Online therapy for anxious teens and young adults across Ontario — book your free consult today” is clear, specific, and actionable. It helps the right people know they’re in the right place and shows them exactly what to do next.

This one tweak alone can help increase client bookings by reducing confusion and providing clear guidance.

Reformat Your Team Page for Credibility and Ease

Your Team or “About Us” page is usually the second-most-visited page on a service-based website. That means it’s a big opportunity to build trust and encourage people to book with the right practitioner.

Some quick wins:

  • Use consistent headshot backgrounds (like light grey or white) for a polished, professional look.

  • Write bios in a consistent structure. For example: who you help, how you work, your credentials, and something personal.

  • Add a clear CTA under each bio, either “Book Now” or “Schedule a Free Consult.”

These updates build credibility and reduce the friction of choosing a provider, especially for group practices.

Improve Your Contact & Booking Flow

Let’s say someone’s ready to book… and then they hit a dead end. If your contact form is complicated or your online booking system has too many barriers, people may give up.

To decrease friction and increase client bookings:

  • Keep your contact form short… just name, email, message.

  • Set expectations clearly (something like, “We’ll reply within 24 business hours”).

  • On your Jane booking profile, avoid requiring credit card input for free consults.

  • Put “Free Consults” at the top of your Jane booking page.

  • Set Jane to only require name, email, and phone for profile creation.

Also consider linking to your contact options (form, phone, email, booking) in one place. When users click “Book Now,” they should be able to choose what works best for them.

Increase Client Bookings with Emotionally Supportive Photography

Your imagery should reflect the outcome of working with you, not the pain your clients are in right now.

Skip stock photos of people looking sad, anxious, or distressed. Instead use warm, welcoming images of people smiling and connecting.

For example, if you offer "anxiety therapy for women" you might be tempted to include a photo on your website of a women looking stressed or anxious (like the one below).

But instead of including photos of how your clients feel now, try to include photos of how they will feel after working with you, like the other photo below of the woman smiling.

Can you see how they both give off a very different vibe?

We also highly suggest hiring a local photographer to do a brand shoot so that you have custom brand-aligned photos of your team and your office or clinic space for your website (and other marketing channels).

If that’s not an option, consider investing in paid stock that aligns with your brand tone.

Boost SEO with Helping Terms and Internal Links

To increase client bookings, your site also needs to attract the right traffic. That’s where SEO (Search Engine Optimization) comes in.

For practitioners, helping terms (or keywords) like anxiety treatment, grief counselling, or pelvic floor physiotherapy are often what people are actually searching for, not your business name.

SEO best practices to think about:

  • Use one helping term per service page and include it in your:

    • Page title

    • H1 header

    • First paragraph

    • URL slug

  • Link your blog posts back to relevant service pages.

  • Include keywords naturally in meta descriptions and image alt text.

And make sure that each service page has sufficient content (ideally 900 to 1,500 words) that is skimmable and client-focused.

Consider Adding a Lead Magnet to Download

If people aren’t ready to book today, that doesn’t mean they’re a lost cause. We can work with this! A lead magnet helps you stay connected with warm leads until they’re ready.

Examples of a lead magnet could be:

  • A free guide (like “7 Signs of Burnout & How to Recover”)

  • A video resource or checklist

  • A 5-day email series

Add your lead magnet to your homepage, sidebar, or even a banner at the top of your site. The key is to offer something valuable and relevant to your ideal client, and warm them up to your approach and working with your practice.

Add Client-Centric Copy That Reflects Their Journey

Strong websites speak to the client’s experience, not just your credentials.

Try this copy formula on your homepage and service pages:

  1. What is the problem? Consider what your ideal client is struggling with right now

  2. What is your solution? Talk about your service, simply explained

  3. What is the result? Share what they’ll feel or gain after working with you

This approach to copy structure helps prospective clients see themselves in your words and shows them what’s possible.

Increase Client Bookings with a Video Tour

This is optional, but can be super engaging and reduce anxieties for people on their first appointment.

A short, casual video walkthrough of your office or clinic (filmed on your phone!) is a great way to show people what to expect. This can calm nerves and demystify the process for new clients.

Upload it to the bottom of your homepage or your Contact page. Add captions for accessibility and keep it under two minutes. Attention spans are short!

Ensure Your Branding Is Consistent Across Platforms

Your website should feel like an extension of your practice, not a separate piece. Cohesive branding helps build trust and makes your clinic feel legitimate.

Check for consistency across:

  • Fonts and colours

  • Logo usage

  • Button style and tone

  • Social media visuals

  • Business cards, brochures, etc.

Even subtle tweaks (like adjusting font sizes or replacing mismatched colours) can improve your website’s credibility and conversion rates.

Don’t Let Small Frictions Block Big Results

You don’t need flashy animations, pop-ups, or complicated funnels to increase client bookings. What matters most is clarity, trust, and ease.

Every small tweak (whether it’s changing your button text or rewriting your team bios) can reduce friction and help your ideal clients say yes.

If you’re not sure where to start, begin with your homepage and booking process. Then work your way through the rest of your site with fresh eyes.

Small steps = big impact.
