Finding the best website builder for therapists is one of the first real decisions you'll make as you build your online presence, and it's a bigger decision than it looks.

The platform you choose shapes everything that comes after it. How easy your site is to update. How well it shows up in Google searches. How aligned the whole experience feels with the practice you've worked so hard to build.

Get it right, and your website becomes a tool that supports your mission for years. Get it wrong, and you may find yourself rebuilding from scratch sooner than you'd like.

With so many platforms marketed as the ideal website builder for therapists, it can be hard to know where to start. Especially when several of them promise the same things: therapist-friendly templates, simple setup, and "everything you need."

Below, we're breaking down seven of the best website builders for therapists, what each one does well, where it falls short, and why Wix has become our go-to recommendation for the practitioners we support.

What Should You Look for in a Therapist Website Builder?

A strong therapist website builder offers ease of use, built-in SEO tools, secure client features, and room to grow with your practice.

Not every feature marketed to therapists is one you'll use, and not every "therapist-specific" platform is built to last.

Here are a few things worth prioritizing:

  • Ease of use: can you make updates yourself, like swapping a photo or editing your bio, without calling in a developer every time?

  • SEO capability: does the platform let you edit page titles, meta descriptions, image alt text, and headers, the elements that help the right clients find you through organic Google search?

  • Booking and intake integrations: can you connect the scheduling and forms tools you already use, or does the platform lock you into its own system?

  • Marketing tools: does it support blogging and email marketing, so your website can grow with your practice instead of sitting static?

  • Room to scale: if you add practitioners, expand your services, or open a group practice down the line, will your site be able to grow with you?

It's also worth thinking about ownership and cost over time. Some platforms charge a recurring fee for access to your own website, and hold your content within their system. If you ever decide to leave, you may lose your design and SEO progress along with it. Others give you more control, even if the upfront investment feels a little higher.

Neither approach is wrong. But it's worth knowing which one you're choosing.

Keeping these priorities in mind will make the comparisons below much easier to weigh against your own practice's needs.

7 Website Builders for Therapists to Consider

Here's a closer look at seven of the most popular options, and where each one really stands out:

  • Wix: our top pick, and the most flexible all-around platform

  • Squarespace: polished templates, less flexibility

  • WordPress: the most customizable, but may require developer support

  • SimplePractice: convenient if you're already using it for practice management

  • Brighter Vision: therapist-specific, but templates can feel generic

  • TherapySites: functional and fast, limited on SEO

  • GoDaddy: the simplest setup, but limited room to grow

1. Wix

Wix is our top recommendation for therapists and health practitioners and it's the therapy website builder we build all of our clients' websites on. What sets it apart is how much it puts in your hands, without requiring any coding knowledge.

The visual, drag-and-drop editor means you can see exactly what your visitors will see as you build, and once your site is live, most practitioners feel genuinely comfortable making their own updates, such as adding a new blog post, swapping a photo, and updating your fees without needing to bring in a developer every time.

Wix also functions as a real business tool, not just a website host. From one dashboard, you can manage:

  • Blogging

  • Email marketing

  • Online forms

  • Payments

This means there are fewer disconnected tools and less time troubleshooting tech, giving you more time with your clients.

The most amazing feature - Wix now offers HIPAA compliance, including PHI protection and a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) for eligible plans. Through the Compliance, Privacy & Cookies settings, eligible Premium and Studio plans can activate PHI protection, which encrypts protected health information collected through forms, bookings, and client messages, and flags any apps or integrations that aren't compliant. Once activated, you can request a signed BAA directly with Wix.

Also, Wix’s SEO capabilities are strong and accessible, giving you control over page titles, meta descriptions, and structured content without needing a technical background.

For practices watching their overhead, Wix tends to be one of the more affordable platforms for what you get, with room to add features like online courses or a shop as your practice grows and evolves.

Wix also integrates well with the booking and intake tools many therapists already rely on, like JaneApp, so you're not forced to abandon a system you trust just to get a better-designed site.

We go deeper on why we recommend Wix so consistently in our blog post, Why We Love Wix: The Best Website Platform for Health & Wellness Practices, if you'd like to explore the platform further.

2. Squarespace

Squarespace is known for its polished, design-forward templates. It's a popular choice among creatives and small businesses in general, including some therapists.

Squarespace’s templates tend to look elegant right out of the box, which appeals to practitioners who want a refined aesthetic without a lot of customization. That said, Squarespace's editor is less flexible than Wix's. You're often working within the structure of a chosen template rather than building freely, which can make it harder to create a layout that's fully yours.

When it comes to SEO tools, Squarespace's are solid, but not quite as intuitive to navigate.

Marketing and CRM features are also more limited, so you may end up needing separate tools for email marketing or client communication.

For therapists who want a beautiful, minimal site and don't anticipate needing much flexibility down the line, Squarespace can be a reasonable option.

3. WordPress

WordPress powers a significant portion of the internet, and its appeal lies in its sheer flexibility. With thousands of plugins and themes available, you can technically build almost anything.

However, that flexibility comes at a cost.

WordPress has a real learning curve, and most therapists end up needing a developer for setup, ongoing maintenance, and security updates.

Unlike Wix or Squarespace, it isn't an all-in-one platform. You're typically piecing together separate tools for hosting, security, backups, and design, which adds cost and complexity fast.

Setup alone can take significantly longer than a platform like Wix, often weeks rather than days, once you factor in hosting selection, plugin configuration, and security setup.

Those costs don't stop at launch, either. Between hosting fees, premium plugins, and ongoing developer time for updates and maintenance, WordPress often ends up being the more expensive option over time, even though the software itself is free.

For a solo practitioner who wants to make quick updates independently, this can quickly feel like more than it's worth. WordPress tends to be the better fit for larger, more complex sites with dedicated technical support behind them

4. SimplePractice

SimplePractice is best known as practice management software, but it also offers a built-in website builder as part of its platform.

The appeal is convenience. Your website, scheduling, billing, and client records all live in one ecosystem, which can simplify your back-end operations.

Setup is fast, often just a few hours, since you're working within a template rather than building from scratch, and that speed can be appealing if you're eager to get something live while you're still getting your practice off the ground.

But the tradeoff is that the website builder itself is fairly basic.

Design options are limited, SEO functionality is minimal, and your site will look noticeably similar to other practices using the same tool.

If your priority is an all-in-one practice management system and your website is a secondary consideration, SimplePractice may be worth exploring. But if you want a website built to attract new clients and reflect the individualized approach you bring to your work, you'll likely need something more robust.

5. Brighter Vision

Brighter Vision markets itself specifically to therapists, which means its templates and language are tailored to the industry from the start.

That focus can feel reassuring if you want something built with your field in mind, and setup is guided and fairly quick, which appeals to practitioners who want less to figure out on their own.

But many practitioners find the templates start to feel generic over time, since a large number of therapist websites are built on the same handful of designs.

With Brighter Vision, customization is limited, SEO tools are fairly basic, and pricing is largely subscription-based, so you're paying an ongoing fee for a site you don't fully own.

It can be a fine starting point for a brand-new practice on a tight timeline, but it may not offer the flexibility your website will need as your practice grows and evolves.

6. TherapySites

TherapySites is another platform built specifically for mental health professionals, offering templates and features designed around common practice needs like intake forms and appointment requests.

Like Brighter Vision, the built-for-therapists angle is appealing on the surface. But design flexibility tends to be limited, and many TherapySites websites carry a similar look and feel to one another.

SEO and content marketing tools are minimal, which can make it harder to build the kind of long-term organic visibility that helps you attract clients without relying entirely on referrals or paid ads.

Pricing tends to be subscription-based as well, similar to Brighter Vision, so it's worth factoring the long-term cost into your decision rather than just the upfront setup.

It's a workable option if you need something functional and fast, but TherapySites is not typically built with long-term growth in mind.

7. GoDaddy

GoDaddy is widely known as a domain registrar, but it also offers a simplified website builder aimed at small businesses.

Its biggest strength is simplicity. You can get a basic site up quickly, and it's genuinely easy to use for practitioners who want the most minimal setup possible.

The tradeoff is that design flexibility, SEO capability, and marketing tools are all fairly limited compared to platforms built with growth in mind.

Renewal pricing is also worth watching closely: introductory rates are often significantly lower than what you'll pay once your first term ends, which can catch practitioners off guard down the line.

GoDaddy can work as a placeholder while you're just starting out, but most practitioners find they outgrow it fairly quickly once they're ready to invest in their online presence more intentionally.

Is Wix HIPAA Compliant for Therapist Websites?

Yes. Wix now offers built-in HIPAA compliance for practices on its eligible premium plans.

Wix rolled out HIPAA compliance support in early 2026, giving therapists a way to activate Protected Health Information (PHI) protection directly within their site's Compliance, Privacy & Cookies settings.

Once activated, you can sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with Wix, the legal contract required whenever a vendor handles PHI on your behalf. This is available on Wix's Business plan and several other premium tiers, so it does require an upgrade from Wix's most basic plans.

It’s important to note that none of this makes compliance automatic. You're still responsible for how you configure your site, which apps you use, and how you manage client data day to day. But having Wix's own BAA and PHI protection built in is a meaningful advantage, one that sets it apart from platforms that require you to route everything through third-party integrations just to stay compliant.

If HIPAA compliance is a priority for your practice, and it should be, we recommend confirming your specific setup with your legal or compliance advisor, alongside a web design team who understands how to structure your site and plan accordingly.

What Makes a Therapist Website Convert, Beyond the Builder?

Your website converts best when clear copy, an intuitive path to booking, and genuine calls-to-action work together, not on platform alone.

At Virtuwell Balance, we've seen beautifully designed websites that don't generate a single inquiry, and we've seen simpler sites that stay consistently booked.

The difference usually comes down to how the site is built, not just what it's built on.

That includes clear, benefit-focused copy that speaks to what your ideal client is experiencing, an intuitive path from homepage to booking, and calls-to-action that feel like an invitation, not a sales pitch.

This is where mindful marketing comes in. It's the practice of building a digital presence that reflects your values instead of chasing every trend or growth hack, and it's a big part of what makes a website feel authentic rather than transactional.

A flexible builder like Wix gives you the freedom to structure your pages intentionally, but it's still up to you (or your web design team) to make sure the messaging, layout, and calls-to-action are actually doing their job.

A gorgeous site with vague copy and a buried contact page will underperform a simpler site that makes it obvious who you help and how to reach you.

We've written more about this in our blog post The 3 Essentials Every High-Converting Therapy Website Needs (And Most Are Missing), which walks through the specific elements that turn website visitors into booked clients.

Why Your Therapy Website Builder Choice Matters Long-Term

It's tempting to choose the fastest, cheapest option when you're just getting your practice off the ground. Sometimes that's the right call for where you are. But it's worth thinking a step ahead.

A platform that feels sufficient today can become limiting as your practice grows: as you add practitioners, expand your services, or want more control over your SEO and content marketing.

Switching platforms later often means starting over on design, losing SEO progress you've built, and paying twice for work that could have been built to last the first time.

This is part of why we caution practitioners against the DIY route more broadly.

We go deeper on this in our blog post, Why DIY Websites are Risky & Can Cost You More Than You Think. If you're weighing whether to build your site yourself or bring in support from the start, this is a good place to start.

Which Platform Fits Your Practice Right Now?

With seven options on the table, it can help to think in terms of where you are right now, not just features on a list.

If you're a solo practitioner who wants full creative control and room to grow, Wix or Squarespace will likely serve you best.

If you're scaling into a group practice and need multi-page structure, team profiles, and stronger SEO to support that growth, Wix is built for that transition in a way most of the others aren't.

If your priority is convenience over customization, and your website is a secondary concern to your practice management system, SimplePractice may be enough.

Lastly, if budget is tight or you’re just starting out and you need something to go live quickly while you figure out your next steps, GoDaddy or TherapySites can hold that space temporarily.

Choosing the Right Therapist Website Builder for Where You're Headed

When it comes to finding the best website builder for therapists, there's no single "correct" answer for every practice.

The key is to find the right therapy website builder for your practice, your growth plans, and how hands-on you want to be with your site long-term.

For the majority of the practitioners we support at Virtuwell Balance, Wix offers the strongest combination of flexibility, SEO capability, HIPAA compliance, ease of use, and room to grow, without requiring a developer on standby for every update. It's why we've built our therapist website design services around the platform.
